Dietitian Advice and Classes
A dietitian is a professional dedicated to the science of nutrition and diet therapy to manage a variety of acute and chronic medical conditions. A dietitian works within a strict ethical code of conduct to provide accurate, independent and practical information about food and health. Wherever they work, Registered Dietitians strive to promote nutritional well-being, treat disease and prevent nutrition-related health problems by enabling people to make informed choices about food and lifestyle.
Dietitians can provide comprehensive dietetic assessment together with advice and literature on all aspects of diet and nutrition including:
- Weight management and malnutrition (individual diet plans)
- Diabetes
- Renal disorders (low electrolyte, low phosphate depending on biochemistry)
- Special pediatric conditions
- Metabolic Diseases e.g. CF, PKU
- Food allergies/intolerances e.g. coeliac (gluten-free), nut allergy etc.
- Eating disorders
- Pregnancy
- Nutritional support in cancers
- Cardiovascular disorders e.g. hyperlipidaemia, hypertension (low saturated fat diet, low cholesterol)
- Gastrointestinal disorders e.g. IBD, IBS (elemental/semi-elemental diets)
- Pancreatic, hepatic, and biliary disorders (low salt, high calorie)
- Endocrine disorders
- Heamatology: anaemias and blood disorders
- Hypermetabolic, infectious, traumatic, and febrile conditions
- Enteral and Parenteral nutrition
Referrals for a confidential dietetic assessment will be accepted from Hospital / Private Consultants General Practitioners Dental Practitioners
Other health professionals or through Patient self-referral.
All dietetic interventions done will be communicated in writing to the referring doctor. The information may also be communicated to the responsible doctor in the case the patient with a medical diagnosis self refers him/herself .
